MY THOUGHTS ON AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here to stay. I don’t go anywhere anymore without hearing about it being used. No planning needed for us anymore; just pop it into AI! I will admit I am beginning to use many of these tools as they are effective and helpful. This can be such a valuable and useful step forward; however, what I don’t understand is why our actual workload isn’t going down…

Generally, working adults have been expected to perform for approximately 40 hours per week. Why is that? Since 1940 this has become the standard amount of work at least in America. Before that time, we worked 60-80 hours not having time to recharge, and even before that 7 days per week 10-12 hour days. OUCH.

I feel with the increase of technology, so to our brains are trying to adapt. This has not been an easy process, and I wonder if technology is stretching us in a way that we can’t perform. We are now inundated with ads, news, etc. all day long. Pings on our emails, texts from friends and relatives, phone calls at work all day.

Many have written books regarding the impact on our flow and attention, however nothing has been done to help rebound from this effect. Instead, we are assumed to continue work outside of work and always be available. There are some lucky few countries that have created laws as protection around off-time being off-time.

BUT my question is this, why with the new technology and the advent of AI are we not using these things to REDUCE our load. I believe that our brains our not made to live in this newly created world, however there has been no change to the work standards to help us better attune ourselves. This is deeply disturbing to me and I hope there is a call to change this. Humans deserve not to work ourselves to death and to enjoy the time we have.
