Mental health “Muscle”
So many of us focus on our physical health, but what about mental health? Mental health and strategies to support good mental health are imperative to live and move through the world. I think of mental health as it’s own muscle that needs to be exercised appropriately to be strong. Are we encouraging reflective, curious thinking or are we stuck in habitual thought patterns without recognising it? There are a myriad of different mental health topics, so first let’s explore what “mental health” means.
Mental health refers to a person’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being (3 things that work together!). It affects how we think, feel, and behave in daily life, as well as how we handle stress, relate to others, and make decisions. Good mental health allows people to cope with life’s challenges, work productively, and contribute to their communities.
Mental health exists on a spectrum, and everyone experiences ups and downs - this is normal and natural. Conditions such as anxiety, depression and PTSD are examples of mental health challenges that can impact daily functioning. Seeking help—whether through therapy, medication, self-care or support systems—is an important part of maintaining mental well-being strength. Just like physical health, mental health requires care, attention and ongoing support.
You can exercise your mental health “muscle” alone or with support. I offer telehealth sessions to meet you where you are and explore mental health as you need! Get in touch via the “contact” button for more info.
